Rehearse a decision, not just a result

Build a task-specific imagery script that includes a decision, a disruption and a useful response.

Use a fictional or non-identifying example. This worksheet supports learning; it is not a psychological assessment. Write on a printed copy or choose “Return” to build a downloadable plan online.

1. Choose the decision

Specify a practice situation and the information the athlete needs to notice.

2. Write a short rehearsal

Include the setting, a useful sensation or sound, the decision and the intended action. Use realistic timing.

3. Add one manageable disruption

For example, an unexpected length. Rehearse noticing it and choosing a response, rather than guaranteeing success.

4. Check the fit

Ask about controllability and usefulness, then compare the intended decision with observations in coached practice.
